#1 Floral Runner #1 Floral Runner
By: Gene Black,
Alabama, USA

This is the very first quilted project I ever made. A co-worker got me to take a class she was teaching on Paper Piecing. I took the class and learned to make a square. Then I pieced the four floral squares for this piece and made the table runner. It is quilted “in the ditch.”

A Christmas Wreath A Christmas Wreath
By: Patricia Moffitt,

The original pattern was only 18 inch square and my daughter wanted it for above her mantle so I enlarged the foundation pieces. Because I did not want to rip out all the paper I printed the pattern on muslin and left it in. The quilting is a poinsettia pattern.

And A Good Old Staffer, Too And A Good Old Staffer, Too
By: Regina Arlauckas,
New York, USA

One of my first quilts – I was armed with quilt as you go assembly knowledge, a walking foot, and lots of gumption to attempt this. These were my first paper pieced blocks, and improvised appliqué. I was also flying without a pattern – piecing 12 Boy Scout critters and drawing the WoodBadge emblem.

The two flowers were small kits that were given to me. Once they were done, I decided that they needed a third one to make an interesting wallhanging. So, I added the leaf. The three of them now grace my bedroom wall.

Crazy Bird Crazy Bird
By: Iret,
Ontario, Canada

This is a paper pieced pattern I found on “quiltmaker.com” and it just cried out to me to make it. I used my own colors and added a pieced brick border to give a little more pop to the black background. Binding is done in lime green to co-ordinate with all the lime grasses.

Every Man Jack Every Man Jack
By: Soma Acharya,
California, USA

I love the geometric features of the Union Jack flag. I used paper piecing technique to create the blocks so that I could reproduce the geometry perfectly.

This is my very first large size quilt that I made for my husband as a gift. Since the flag represents people, I called it Every Man Jack.

One of a series of Life studies – an allegorical painted quilt. The quilt over the sofa is English paper piecing. Tiny odd shaped pieces of fabric are stitched together and then the whole is painted to give a 3D effect. The quilt deals with the very hard subject of coping with grief.

The Red Sea The Red Sea
By: Julie Karlak Simply Divine Quilts,
Illinois, USA

I wanted to make a quilt with red as my “neutral”/background. I called it the Red Sea because the blue/green represent the waves. Most likely, the closest I’ll ever get to the real Red Sea is reading about it in The Bible!
