How did you get into quilting?

This is my very first quilt. I wanted a quilt for my bed but couldn’t afford to purchase one. So I got my ruler, pencil and paper out and designed how I wanted it. Put one block together first and then made the templates out of cereal cardboard. I didn’t have quilting magazines or books so I just winged it.

At the time we could not afford batting so I used an old comforter for the batting. Which was a big mistake because the borders were so fluffy that I could not quilt it….BIG MISTAKE. What a learning process and I still make mistakes but know how to cover them up better. This quilt stayed on my bed for years and then a son took it over, you can see that it was well loved.

What is your quilting style?

I love applique, mostly blanket stitching because needle turn takes too long but I like that as well.

How did you get started quilting and/or designing?

When I was in Amerika Samoa, I had the time and encouragement from bloggers and friends. I had a young friend that commissioned me to make her a baby blanket and she wanted original….that is when it began.

Which quilt is your favourite? Did you design it? Why is it your favourite?

This is one of my favorites because it is just so fun versatile. You can even change up the items in the hand to sewing items, gardening, golfing…

Favourite colour: Brights Brights Brights

What part of the quilting process do you like the most? I actually like the thinking process, choosing the fabrics, planning how you want it and then putting it together.

What part of the quilting process do you dislike the most? Probably the binding.

Chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, or: Chocolate.

Most exciting place you’ve travelled: Amerika Samoa.

Being partial to any type of pictorial design I think this one is the best I’ve seen yet! Great job Barb, I love that hairy tail and the buttonhole stitch makes it look fall like.

Very cute block, Barb. My dad loved feeding the squirrels so I will make this one and think of him. :-) Thanks for a great design!
