Super Deal from the Fat Quarter Shop

Fat Quarter Shop

The Fat Quarter Shop was founded in 2003 by Kimberly Jolly. An avid quilter, Kimberly began her shop as a side business while still working a corporate position, cutting, packing and shipping right out of her house during evenings and weekends. From the very beginning, she was committed to delivering top-notch service for every single order and customer. As the Fat Quarter Shop’s reputation grew, Kimberly decided to make it a full-time operation. Her husband Kevin joined her not long after, and with his help, lots of hard work, and a tireless commitment, the store began to grow. Over the past few years a few more people have joined the staff!

As a team, we continue to branch out with the best fabrics, exclusive kits, quilt clubs, BOMs, and more. And we will always be driven by the passion that Kimberly founded the store upon, which is always giving you the best products and service.

How did you get into quilting and become a designer?

Formally trained as a secondary school design and technology teacher, I took time off to have my family and discovered the world of patchwork and quilting. It was on one of my many visits to the local patchwork shop that the owner asked if I would like to start designing my own projects and teaching classes. I remember being amused because at the time I was 8 months pregnant. However despite this, shortly after the arrival of our third child I started teaching classes an evening in between 3 hourly breastfeeds. I often came home to find hubby pacing the floor eagerly waiting my arrival.

Teaching patchwork and quilting classes was a wonderful experience. Over 7 years I met many kindred spirits and made some lifelong friends. Designing projects for my classes prompted me to start writing patterns and I branded my designs Little Green Cottage, named after the 100 year old home we were painstakingly renovating at the time.

A move interstate prompted me to take the next step forward and establish my own Internet business, Stitching Cow. My online business has been up and running for 6 years and features Little Green Cottage patterns and other helpful resources related to sewing. It also offers online classes and video tutorials for both beginners and the more experienced.

Which quilt is your favourite? Did you design it? Why is it your favourite?

I think my favourite quilt is always the one I am currently working or have just finished. At present I am finalising the patterns for a new Noah’s Ark quilt that I will be launching in October.

What colour do you use most often in your quilts? Would have to be green, I often use green and dusty pinks in my sewing projects.

Favourite one-sentence tip for a new quilter: The fun is in the journey so don’t get too hung up on getting everything perfect. Be kind to yourself, the more you sew the better you will get.

Favourite quote or mantra: Life is empty without a passion!

This is a lovely block and has me thinking that I might want to do some of my blocks in wool applique. I need to make up my mind soon! Thanks for sharing!
