Weekly Quilt Contest: Circles

weekly quilt contest

The theme for this week’s contest is Quilts with Circles. Your quilt does not have to be made entirely of ONLY circles, but circles should play a predominant role in the quilt design. Half and quarter circles are also acceptable. The circles can be pieced, appliqued, fused, etc. You can submit quilts, wall hangings, pillows, etc. as long as the item you enter is completely finished (i.e. bound and quilted).

Picket Fence Fabrics from Brockville, Ontario are back as this week’s sponsor.

Fellow quilters:

Picket Fence Fabrics is located in downtown Brockville just two blocks from the beautiful St. Lawrence River. We carry a wide selection of Canadian and international quilting patterns, bright and cheerful cottons, quilting notions and books.

Cantik Batiks are a current favourite among staff and quilters at the shop. We have made a number of samples in these beautiful batiks. If you are in the neighbourhood drop in and say hello and check out these batiks and the quilts.

New fabrics arriving this week include a beautiful selection of prints from Australia. The colours and designs will brighten up any decor. The new Halloween and Christmas fabrics for 2012 are arriving daily too. This has got all of us thinking about our Christmas in July event. You might think this is early but if you want to get something finished for gift giving at the end of the year this is the time to start!

This week’s theme of circles had us thinking about what tools for making circles would be our favourite. The challenge of making the perfect circle in a quilt can be daunting. Of course, we can never have just one favourite–that would be unfair! Our most favourite line of tools is the Elisa’s BackPorch Drunkard’s Path and Quick Curve Rulers. Curves are a snap with these tools. And we all agreed that a must have circle tool is a yardstick compass. This handy tool attaches to a standard yard stick and allows you to draw any size circle up to 72 inches. These tools are in stock and can be ordered by calling the shop.

The prize we are offering this week is two patterns and a 3.5″ template from Elisa’s Backporch Design.
