Feedback Please: Blog Hop Party Review

Hi Everyone!

I’ve received many lovely comments of appreciation and thanks for hosting the Blog Hop Party. I hope everyone had fun participating, whether you were a blogger hosting a give-away or a quilter hopping along visiting new blog friends.

It was so much FUN, that I’d like to continue the event in 2012. I have a couple of polls included in this blog post. Please can you answer and let me know your thoughts. The questions are similar but are geared towards (1) bloggers that want to do give-aways and (2) quilters that hop around visiting the blogs and entering the give-aways. Bloggers can answer both questions.

Keep in mind, that you do not have to commit to participating in the event each time, this is just so I can get a general opinion of how often to organize future Blog Hops.

Question 1: For those bloggers that participated in the event or those bloggers that would like to participate in a future event:

How often would you like to host a give-away on your blog and participate in future Blog Hop Parties?

For Bloggers ...

  • Once a quarter is great (89%, 70 Votes)
  • Once a month is great (10%, 8 Votes)
  • I won't participate again (1%, 1 Votes)

Total Voters: 79

Question 2: For those quilters that hopped along visiting the blogs:

How often would you like to hop along visiting bloggers in a Blog Hop Party?

For Quilters...

  • Once a quarter is great (87%, 86 Votes)
  • Once a month is great (13%, 13 Votes)

Total Voters: 99

Also, if you have any suggestions or ideas for future Blog Hop Parties, please share them in the comments or send me an email.

  1. I loved being a part of this! I hope everyone had fun..

  2. I had a lot of fun participating in the Blog Hop Party both as a blogger holding a giveaway and hopping around to all of the blogs. My only suggestion would be not to have to so close to Christmas. I was so rushed between getting ready for the holidays that I barely had time to do much blog hopping. Thank you for coordinating this fun event and hope you will hold more Blog Hop Parties in the future.

i had so much fun! it actually made me want to start a blog…

    Linda,

I hear ya .. this party was done to coincide with the Quilting Gallery’s birthday on December 10th. Future events will occur at better times.

    Cheers,
    Michele

  5. Barbara says:

This event conflicted with Giveaway Day at Sew Mama Sew as well as my own Occupy Your Sewing Room event. That doesn’t serve anyone well since there aren’t enough hours in the day to hop around to some 600 blogs (events combined) to enter giveaways. I don’t necessarily have a good idea about how to prevent this in the future, except to be flexible with the scheduling and to announce an event well in advance.

  6. I had so much fun participating – I found a lot of new great blogs and even made some new friends. This was a wonderful event and I am so glad that I participated! Thank you again for hosting this fun event!

  7. Cherry says:

I loved it! I agree with the previous comments in that it was hard keeping up with all the other events, but besides that, it was wonderful. Thanks Michelle :-)

  8. Wendy says:

Require all bloggers to notify their giveaway winner(s) by email. Posting a notice on facebook to go to their website and then the blog from there is just a gratuitous way to rack up extra visitors (yes, someone is doing that).

Facebook doesn’t always show every post (even from my own daughter at times), so it’s easy for the winner to never know that she was supposed to contact the giver. I managed to visit every blog on the list, but I don’t have time to visit all a second time to see if I won something. I have a house to clean and guests arriving in 2 days. And I also have a day job.

  9. Mishka says:

    Hi Barbara,

I did not know about the other events when I planned mine. I’m not sure what your event was. I was late in announcing the Party on my site. It’s been an extremely BUSY fall. As much as I try to keep up with events going on in the blogosphere, it’s impossible for me to know everything that’s going on.

    Thanks for your comments.

    Michele

  10. Mishka says:

    Hi Wendy,

Yes, it became apparent while organizing the Party that I need to create a page on the site “How to be a good give-away host” or something similar. There were so many questions. Winners should be notified by email, and not doing so isn’t very nice, especially at this tremendously busy time of year for everyone.

I didn’t notice the Facebook thing, if I had, I would have removed them from the Party list. I had to remove one or two from the Party. I only had a chance to glance at the blogs when putting the list together, and never really had a chance to get back to all of them and re-read each post.

    Thanks for the comments,
    Michele

  11. Jen says:

I had a great time! I loved the way that some people posted a day early. I felt like I could visit all the blogs of people I follow already and spend the rest of the week going to new blogs. I love how this hop was only quilting blogs. I agree with others about the timing, there were a lot things going on that week. I think 4 times per year is a lot of hops though, and I think that maybe 2 times is perfect. Thanks for all your hard work in organizing this Michele. I didn’t win any gifts, but I had such a fun time visiting blogs :)

  12. Tonya says:

Once a quarter would be nice. Twice Yearly would be even better.

  13. JoanieinNC says:

    Michele,

This was my first time to participate, both in offering a give away and having a blast connecting with other quilters, reading blogs and seeing each one’s give aways. I was blown away with the generosity among all these bloggers. I am really new, I was only serious with my blog about 1 week before the Blog Hop Party and this has opened up a whole new world for me. I attempted to visit everyone on the list – afraid I would miss out on something! I also participated in the Sew Mama Sew give away by offering a give away too. I noticed that many just paired the two give aways together. I created a new page for Sew Mama Sew, so it worked just fine for me for both to run at the same time. I have to admit I couldn’t bring myself to check out all the offers with Sew Mama Sew since it took me almost 3 days to look at all of the bloggers in the Quilters Gallery Blog Hop.

Thank you so much for hosting this event. I will definitely do it again!

  14. Incomparable says:

We loved being a part of this…thank you…we had so much positive feedback…it was wonderful…it was a very busy week though so a little earlier would be good…but we would be happy to take part in any future giveaways…it was fun…contacting winners by email is a must…thanks for all your hard work Michele…warm wishes from a very sunny south africa

  15. SewLindaAnn says:

Thank you for all the work done on the blog hop, I had a fabulous time. Once a quarter I think is fine, it’s a time consuming activity where you really want to peruse the blogs that look interesting or likely to be put in your reader. Also, I would think the blog owners themselves would prefer quarterly since it makes it more special to do rather than a monthly thing you expect. One more thing, if the larger hops could be coordinated not to fall at the same time, that would be a good thing! Happy Tuesday and thanks again.

  16. Kristen says:

I agree – too close to Christmas (although I understand the reasons why!) … while I hope to get out this week to get the winner her goodies, I am NOT looking forward to braving the lines at the post office, and I hope it doesn’t get lost in the Christmas rush!

Twice a year would be ideal for me, although if held quarterly, I’d only choose to participate once or twice a year.

  17. Marija says:

I loved it! This was my first time participating as a blog owner and it was a blast! Just before learning about it, I started a Festival of small projects on my blog so this was just amazing to be able to share with so many great visitors! I only wish I had more time to visit other blogs (didn’t make it to all of them), since my blog and projects kept me busy (on top of all the holidays stuff).
Thank you so much for all the hard work of hosting – I will definitely participate again!

  18. Sha says:

This was a lot of fun both as a blogger and a hopper.
I personally run 2 giveaways a month as part of the 2 series I do on my blog so participating anytime would work for me as long as the dates work out. I plan my blog posts out at least a month ahead of time, that’s the only constraint I would have.
But I think maybe 2 times a year would be a good number.
    Thanks and Happy Holidays.

  19. Linda says:

Thanks for all your hard work Michele. I enjoyed the Blog Party very much. I had a plan that worked well for me and I stopped by every blog and entered most giveaways. I became a follower at many blogs. It was great fun. Hope you do it again next year.

  20. Thank you for running this. It is a great way to connect with new people. I agree, twice a year would be enough.
In the future, I also think it would be useful to stipulate that participants need to be contactable by email. After choosing and announcing my winner I have discovered that I cannot make contact as her email is not enabled.

  21. Elisa says:

I am a small, new-ish blog, so I did not offer a giveaway, but I would certainly consider doing one for next year. This was a lot of fun– not only for some of the wonderful giveaways, but also b/c I discovered some new blogs that I am now a follower of. It was great to see was some of my blog friends were giving away on their sites, as well as seeing some of them win!! Really fun, esp during the holiday season. Thanks for organizing! (I didn’t win anything, and I’m fine with that– it was still a ton of fun)

  22. Janet says:

I didn’t take your survey because you don’t have enough options for responses. I’ll just tell you here. This was the first time I have had a giveaway during a blog hop. It was fun but also an incredible amount of work. I would do it again, but no more than twice a year, and probably only once a year would be enough. It was also much too close to Christmas. I had lots of Christmas related stuff to do by the time my draw came along and I just did the draw as quickly as I could and didn’t write up a fun post, as I would have liked to. Ditto with commenting. I did visit every participating blog, but it was too much for this time of year. Thank you so much for all your hard work though. I imagine if I found it to be a lot, then it was 50 times that much work for you. Happy holidays!

  23. Annie says:

I had never visited blogs before. So this was a great way to find many quilter blogs listed all together. I visited more than 20 and figured out how to enter on most of the sites. I even won a prize. It was fun but I agree with those who actually have blogs — it would be better in any other month! Thanks so much for all the organizing.

  24. I was totally surprised at the traffic, people who joined my blog, and especially all the comments. It was a lot of fun and I would definitely love to do it again.

  25. Kate says:

I think twice a year would be plenty and definitely not in December or a summer month … what about January when it’s so quiet. I got to visit a lot of blogs that I would not otherwise have known about and enjoyed that. I wasn’t impressed with those bloggers who would not ship their giveaway out of their own country – seems a bit mean spirited. It was fun and I thank you for hosting and thank all the bloggers who participated.

  26. I enjoyed the blog hop tremendously. I even won a prize after someone told me about changing my status from NO REPLY and then the next day your VERY helpful post came out.

I would like a blog hop 4 times a year if it involved 50 bloggers or less but a hop of THIS magnitude is too much for that often, for me at least. I felt compelled to visit every single blog and it took me about 4 days. Finally toward the end, if I didn’t like the prize, I just didn’t bother jumping through all of their hoops.

Maybe there could be one in February called A Short Hop until Spring and then one in mid to late September-Hop To It–Get Ready for the Holidays? Probably those are busy time for bloggers getting ready to do the seasonal shows and fairs but THOSE people are ALWAYS busy!

The idea of etiquette for participants on BOTH sides of the giveaways is a good idea. If some of us had problems at the blog sites, I imagine the hosts had some troubles with some of us visitors.

Whatever you decide, it was a monumental undertaking and I truly appreciate the work you and the other hosts put into this. I am impressed.

  27. MC says:

Thanks for hosting, I know it was a lot of work! I didn’t win anything but found some great new blogs that I’m enjoying following. With this many participants, it’s a good thing the event was open for a week. It’s quite a commitment to visit each one and look around.

  28. Teresa says:

Michele, I would participate in another blog hop giveaway in a heartbeat. It was a great chance to hop around and find blogs I had not seen previously. And I’d do the giveaway again also. Quarterly sounds like better timing than once a month. Thanks so much for hosting this. I know it must be a lot of work. Your time and talent are much appreciated.

    THANKS!!!!

  29. Sharon says:

I found the timing bad too – but realize you had an anniversary celebration. I would love another hop as a prticipating blogger. Also, feel these should be ‘special events’ so once a year is plenty – there are so many others out there – and when two are happening at once, whew!! I only participated in the Galleries and that was more than enough for me. I agree with others, bloggers should have strict guidelines in how they post to their blog and there needs to be a personal contact with the winner. Thank you for all you do here at Quilt Gallery and I have enjoyed many of your activities.

  30. Renate says:

    Michelle,

This was the first time I participated in a Blog Hop as both a “hopper” and a “hostess” and I had a lot of fun reviewing and commenting on blogs and reading and responding to comments left on my blog. It was encouraging to see that the Hop also increased my following. Not substantially, but that is okay, because I like to get to know those that have taken the time to look around my blog.

You did a tremendous job organizing this as always and I am grateful for your talent at keeping us all on track. As for the frequency of the Blog Hop, the concensus appears to be to host one every quarter and preferrably not at Christmas time. I hear what folks are saying and I somewhat agree. If you are up to organizing 4 times a year, go for it! As for me, I’d most likely join twice a year, but choose which one of the four I would join. Reason; I wanted to hop to all of the blogs listed this time around, and there were many, but ran out of time. If I participate in 2 as a hostess and 2 as simply a “Hopper” I’d have the opportunity to visit a bit more and really look around.

Anyway, that’s just my nickel’s worth. Whatever you decide, you can bet that there are plenty of us out here that would support you. Thanks again, and all the blessings of the season to you and your family.

This was fun, and I hope to take part in your next party too. Thank you so much, Michele. My problem is that some of the persons answering didn’t leave a way of finding them. If you just put your nick name, and then no mail address, and then again do not come back to my blog…..ah. I had to make a second draw.
    Merry Christmas to you, Michele.

  32. Tracy says:

Great fun! It was wonderful hopping along and making new friends and being inspired.

I was the winner from Bea Lee’s Blog….I just received my EQ7 in the mail.

  33. Melinda says:

I like the blog hop a lot and managed to visit most of the blogs. My pet peeve is when bloggers require you to be a follower to participate in the drawing. I follow a lot of blogs but just skip new ones that require me to be a follower. I did start following several new blogs to me because I found them interesting, not because it was required.

I also had a good time doing my giveaway. I think twice a year would be ideal.

  34. Evelyn says:

The blog hop was so much fun and winning a prize was more fun. I am so happy you put in all that work for quilters and bloggers. I am looking forward to more hops and I think that however many there are, one only has to participate when it is convenient. Everyone has different schedules and priorities. Its great to get to know more friends.

  35. PJ says:

As a Blog Hopper I love visiting all the different blogs but I hate being sent off to Facebook to “write on a wall” or “Like” something, become a Friend and/or being required to Twitter about their site for more chances to win. After all it is Blog Hop not a Facebook Hop or a Twitter thing! On blogs with the “Follow Me” is OK.

It was lots of fun and I look forward to the next Blog Hop.
