Anniversary Quilts Anniversary Quilts
By: PamelaQuilts, Oregon, USA

I wanted to make my parents a bright and fun batik quilt for their 50th wedding anniversary. I loved this pattern with all the flying geese and was able to make most of the top from my stash. Choosing the borders was the hardest part, I auditioned many fabrics before choosing these.

Birds of a Feather Birds of a Feather
By: Janet Archibald, British Columbia, Canada

I made this quilt when I was participating in an online swap – Doll Quilt Swap#9. The inspiration hit me as I was viewing my partner’s favourites, so a quick sketch ensued and then I raw edge appliqued the geese and then free motion quilted it. I think it was pretty well received!

By: Eileen, Minnesota, USA

This tabletopper is “Cold Nose, But Warm Heart” from This and That patterns by Sherri K. Falls. You can also make it as a tree skirt. The blue fabrics have silver metallic in them, which makes it look like it was quilted with metallic thread. The snowmen are appliqued.

Come Fly With Me Bag Come Fly With Me Bag
By: Come Fly With Me Bag, Wisconsin, USA

I based my flying geese quilted bag on the art work of graphic artist MC Escher. Found two pieces of artwork on Google Images, decided I could place triangles in a similar pattern to create a cool design on the front of the bag and repeated the V on the back of the bag – upside down.

Every Which Way Every Which Way

The quilt is made from the pattern by Janet Locey of Henscratch Quilting in flannels (a favorite). It allowed me to try a new tool (Eleanor Burns FG Ruler) and a new technique (hand basting as taught by Sharon Schamber). It was free motion quilted with clamshells on my (old) DSM.

Flying Geese Flying Geese
By: marjorie henwood, New Brunswick, Canada

This is the very first flying geese I ever made…it looked so simple. I remember putting the strips of triangles together; thinking how fast that was..then sewed the long rows side by side, and realized that none of them lined up…lol….needles to say; it was a lesson. Don’t hurry!!!!

Flying Geese Applique Quilt Flying Geese Applique Quilt
By: Patricia Nicholls, United Kingdom

This quilt was finished this morning, its an old UFO and its going to be hung on my bedroom wall. I’m new to quilting feathers and it was a pleasure to quilt so many of them. I quilted it on my Bernina 440 and at 50 x 50 its at the limit for me of how big I feel comfortable to quilt.

Flying Home Flying Home
By: Jan Cooper, Alabama, USA

I thought it would be neat to make a flying geese quilt where the flying geese units were actually supposed to be geese flying. The result was this little quilted wall hanging.

No Blue Geese in my Tropical Garden No Blue Geese in my Tropical Garden
By: Pam in KC, Missouri, USA

When I made the quilt top, every quilt seemed to have blue in it. When I realized that the floral fabric had no blue, I decided there would be no blue geese in my quilt. About a year later, I rented time on a long arm machine. These are my first feathers.

This quilt has over 100 flying geese pieces in it and recently won a 2nd place ribbon at my local fair. It took me months to complete. I started it as a beginner and quickly found it to be too challenging for me. I finished it after I became more confident in my quilting skills.

To Everything there is a Season To Everything there is a Season
By: Julie Fukuda, Japan

I love flying geese and began this quilt with those blocks. When I couldn’t find fabric to fill the spaces between, I came up with a list of birds and flowers in my past gardens that, like the geese, represent the coming and going of seasons. All hand pieced and hand quilted.
