The theme for this week’s quilt contest is Quilts for Babies. Carli Heinrichs of Good Earth Quilting is this week’s sponsor. She has donated two Organic Dr. Suess “Earth or Bright” 100% cotton, hand cut Jelly Rolls to this week’s winners. You might remember Carli from the "Slice and Dice" quilting tutorials she did last month:
Good Earth Quilting
Good Earth Quilting studio opened officially this year. We started out by making custom quilts for locals of the Bulkley Valley about two years ago. We continue to make one-of-a-kind custom quilts, T-shirt quilts and custom baby sets. Often our clients asked if we had organic cotton! This was the first idea of an online shop, Organic Quilt Cotton.
But I’m getting ahead of myself. Many years ago, one of our sons was highly allergic to many foods, cleaners and clothing, so it was in an effort to help our son Paul, that I first began seeking organic cotton for clothing in the early 1990s. But the price was prohibitive and we turned to thrift store clothing because of their prewashed nature.
We love Earth-friendly, fast and inexpensive ways to use fabric of any period blending new, vintage and recycled fabric into fabulous quilts. So I started Blended Fabric Quilts blog.
Nola Weston, my good friend, who has supported my efforts since day one, supported my move towards an online fabric shop. We cheered each other in excitement. We are both local community volunteers and have always enjoyed a good bargain at garage sales.
We’re tickled to sponsor this week’s quilt contest. The top two beautiful quilts will be awarded an awesome Organic Dr. Suess “Earth or Bright” 100% cotton, hand cut Jelly Roll (16 strips, 2.5 in. x WOF) worth $34.10 from Good Earth Quilting.
We’re proud to offer this excellent gift for the two top winners of the “Babies” theme quilt contest this week. We practice natural organic gardening and annually harvest wild foods from Mother Nature. We encourage an Earth-friendly approach to quilting through the use of natural fibers such as organic cotton. As well, we believe that recycling of our older fabric, ugly fabric or recycled cloth from clothing is good for the Earth.
