Quilts for Japan

Quilters Newsletter in the United States is collecting comfort quilts to be sent to Patchwork Tsushin, a leading Japanese quilt magazine. Quilts will be distributed to those most impacted by the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Quilts need to be sent no later than April 30, 2011.

More information is available here: Call for Quilts for Japan. If you’re not in the US, you’ll need to contact Dana Jones, to find out about shipping your quilt(s) directly to Japan. Her email is available on the blog post listed.

If you’re in Canada, Bev Rogan has set up a Facebook group: Quilts for Japan. Quilts should be no larger than 50″x70″ in an effort to reduce shipping costs. They can be a simple design as these are urgently needed. For more information, email: glassylady@shaw.ca.

Update: There’s now a web site dedicated to the Canadian-started initiative. You don’t have to be in Canada to support this group. You’ll ship directly to their contact in Japan. See Quilts for Japan for more information.

If you want to make a donation, check out: For Japan With Love. That had a goal of raising $5,500 and have already raised $58,231. Wow!
