Flower Quilts

I made this quilt from blocks that were cut out by my Grandmother and survived my 1984 house fire when she was living with me. It is the same pattern she made for me in the 1950’s. That quilt was lost in the fire, so being able to recreate it was a second gift from her. Hand pieced and quilted.

This little quilt was my Super Bowl Sunday project a couple of years ago. The pattern is from a magazine…I don’t remember which one, though!

It hangs in my living room. The bright colors make me happy.

This was my first finished quilt made for my mom who loved flowers. My children called her Busia – the Polish version of grandma – hence the name. Although it hung in my first guild show, I was more pleased to know that she used it often especially before she passed away.

Three days before the event, my daughter asked me what I was making for her 6th birthday. As this request was a surprise desire to me, I had her choose a charm pack from my stash and by adding addt’l stash fabric, I came up with this child size lap/nap quilt. She loves pink and flowers.

These are Freezer paper pieced flowers I made with a Chunky Strip challenge. Purple is my favorite color and these were fun for me! The pattern is from Marsha McCloskey’s “Fat Quarters and Friends” book.

Each year I love planning the Christmas quilt gift for my son’s teacher. Noah is my 8 year old son and asked, “Mom, can you make Miss Joan’s quilt trandional since she is that type and not wonky like your usuals.” Hence, this broderie perse piece for his teacher’s 2010 Christmas gift. Hope u like!

This quilt was inspired by the book, “Quilts from the Selvage Edge” by Karen Griska and is one of my personal quilt challenge quilts for 2010. As I love working with selvages and machine applique here is one that has both. This book was featured on my blog in February.

From a picture of a hibiscus flower in my yard, I made this piece for a Quilt University class. It was incredible, and turned out far better than I thought possible!

This was my first applique project I made in Mar, 2006. I also did the machine quilting. My inspiration was my love of flowers and the color purple. Irises are one of my favorite flowers and they smell SO good! This small quilt reminds me of Spring all year long.

My Crazy Quilt was primarily embellished while enjoying my garden surroundings. Nature is a great inspiring influence in my work. Flowers and insects were worked into this quilt by beading and silk ribbon embroidery.

I flower pounded a hibiscus in Hawaii before my hubby could get a photo of it. The pounded flower is the label.
So I made this hibiscus to replace the one I pounded and gave it to my sweetheart. Maybe now he will forgive me :)

Fused applique using batiks with painted and stitched detail. I made this in a workshop with Claire Tinsley from Hannah’s Room and gave it to my sister for her 50th birthday.

This was made as a quilt guild challenge using paint chip colors that used our initials. I used a pattern from an Australian Quilt Magazine. The bottom was a technique I’d never done before.

I made this quilt to showcase the baskets I was given by my sewing group for my birthday blocks. I had the pleasure of filling them with beautiful flowers and surrounding them with a foundation-pieced “fence”.

This is my own design. It has a randomly pieced white and neutral background with fused and machine appliqued sunflowers and leaves. The applique stitch is a narrow zig zag, and I used a variety of threads for texture and interest.

Woven Sunshine is a challenge quilt I created for my quilt guild. The background is hand woven strips of fabric. This is an original design. I was inspired by the sunflowers that grow in our yard each summer.
